Description

For Violin, Viola, Cello, and Double Bass find out more on each type below.

Violin and Viola – Violinissimo. It has three pickup heads; two bigger pickup heads are wedged between the violin and each bridge foot and the third, smaller pickup head is wedged into one wing slot of the bridge. The bridge feet sensors produce an extremely voluminous and smooth sound, and the low frequencies and the unique sound characteristics of the violin’s corpus are picked up. The bridge sensor in the wing slot adds to the sound’s brilliance.

With a 1/4″ carpenter jack that clamps onto the bottom/side of the instrument.

Cello – Big Twin. Specially designed for bigger instruments with low mechanical resonance. The extra strong output signal makes it a versatile choice for a variety of instruments. The two heads allow for positioning at two spots which results in an improved balance of the sound and a wider and absolutely flat frequency response. The Big Twin is recommended to transduce piano, grand piano, harp, dulcimer, double bass, cello, and even acoustic guitars.

The Big Twin is available with an external jack that comes with a self-adhesive clamp for quick and easy placement on the instrument. The pickup heads are attached with a special double-side adhesive film, which is UV resistant to ensure safe adhesion even after years of use. It is ultra-thin and enables the harmonic frequencies to completely pass through to the pickup disks.

Double Bass – Bass Max. Sturdy and has a high output signal that is balanced over the whole tone range. Suitable for both arco and pizzicato playing. The connection jack is held in place by a special attachment clamp mounted at the A and D strings. It will evenly pick up the tone range of the double bass and works very well with smaller bass combo amps.

Double Bass – Double Big Twin. A four-head upright bass transducer was developed specifically for jazz bass players. Its transmission band includes very high and very low frequencies, which makes it especially suitable for jazz bass.

The Double Big Twin is able to pick up each string of the upright bass separately. This results in an extraordinary balance of sound, even for pizzicato playing. The Double Big Twin is easily installed with the supplied double-sided adhesive film and doesn’t require modification of the instrument itself. A special attachment clamp holds the connection jack so that it can be mounted at the A and D strings between the string holder and bridge.

We highly recommend one of our K&K preamps for impedance adaptation and pre-amplification.

Double Bass – Fingerboard Pickup. A specially modified single pickup is ideal for capturing fingerboard sounds. Its unique size and shape allow precise placement and a preamp allows rockabilly bass players to blend in just the right amount of slap, growl, and other fingerboard sounds to achieve the exact sound and effect they desire.

We suggest you place the fingerboard pickup near the top of your fingerboard, on the reverse side. Double-sided adhesive tape for installation is included.

Double Bass – Bass Master Pro. A pickup combination system for the upright bass, consisting of a Double Big Twin bridge transducer, a Bass Max wing transducer, and a specially designed two-channel preamp. It delivers the most complete transmission range for the versatile upright bass player. The Double Big Twin transmits very high and very low frequencies, which makes it especially suitable for jazz bass. The high-frequency translation ensures a clean amplification of the finger attack with the picked bass. The low-frequency translation refers to a desired very bassy sound picture. The Bass Max wing mount transducer transmits more midrange, which adds power and definition to the sound. When playing arco, we recommend using only the wing transducer.

The preamp is a two-channel, belt clip unit that features two volume controls, a stereo input, and a line-level output on the outside of the box. Inside the box, there are adjustable controls for gain, bass, and treble for each channel. The tone controls offer an incredible +/- 20 dB. This is a wider range than some big boards on the market today! To keep the box as small as possible these controls are trim pots (small potentiometers that should be adjusted with the included precision screwdriver). Once you install the pickups, you can adjust the two channels with these trim pots to your personal preference and needs. While performing, the two volume knobs on the outside allow for quick adjustments.

Double Bass – Bass Master RB. RB for Rockabilly and slap bass is the first upright bass transducer system designed specifically for this purpose. It combines two transducers (the Bass Max and a Fingerboard Pickup) to create an integrated double bass pickup system that brings out the percussive and subtle fingerboard sounds, as well as strong and warm bass tones. Each Bass Master RB can be fine-tuned via the separate bass and treble controls within the two-channel preamp, providing an infinite range of combinations for every player and any style of play.

The first component, the popular Bass Max, is positioned in the bridge wing. To make the Bass Max, we combine two transducers into a “sandwich” in order to maximize and enhance vibrations captured from the entire bridge. Only one Bass Max is necessary to provide an even signal from all four (or five) strings. Its strong midrange signal is ideal for cutting through the mix in loud Rockabilly situations or providing a warm and supportive line for country bluegrass.

The fingerboard transducer’s unique size and shape allow it to be precisely placed on your instrument. The preamp lets the player blend in just the right amount of slap, growl, and other fingerboard sounds to reach their audience. This allows the player to achieve the exact sound they desire.

The two-channel preamp has internal gain, bass, and treble trim pots for each pickup, allowing impressive +/- 20dB tonal adjustments. External volume controls let you balance the volumes of the bridge and fingerboard transducers on the fly. A convenient belt clip is included with this compact preamp, which weighs a mere ten ounces with the battery installed. A six-foot, high-quality three-conductor (1/4 inch stereo) cable is included to complete the package.

Pure Preamp. Featuring +/-20 dB bass and mid-EQ -, and +/- 16 dB treble EQ controls plus an internal gain trimmer that allows you to adjust the gain from factor 0.5 (half as loud as the input signal) to factor 10 (10 times as loud as input signal). This belt clip unit has been specifically designed for the frequencies of the acoustic guitar but it is also great for many other instruments.

The Pure Preamp features a special super wide-band midrange filter. Its simple and noiseless circuitry provides unsurpassed clarity and power and the internal gain trimmer allows you to dial in the precise amplification factor needed for your instrument.

The frequency response is 10-30,000Hz. The bass control is set to roll off at 100Hz, the midrange at 1.5kHz with extra large bandwidth, and the treble are set at 10kHz. The input impedance is 1 meg and the output is low ohmic. Battery life is about 180+ hours.

On the rear of the preamp are two 1/4″ jacks (input and output). The output jack also doubles as a battery switch, when unplugged it disconnects the battery when not in use.

Pure XLR Preamp. The same great sound and low noise circuitry as our best-selling Pure Preamp with the addition of a DI-balanced XLR output and a phase switch.

The Pure XLR Preamp is specially designed to complement our line of Pure Pickups. However, due to its adjustable input gain and wide frequency range, it will work with many more applications. The Pure XLR Preamp features +/-20 db bass, mid, and treble controls, plus an adjustable input gain control. Its noiseless circuitry provides unsurpassed clarity and power and the adjustable input gain allows you to dial in the precise amplification factor needed for your instrument.

The addition of the phase switch is one of the most important tools for live sound amplification of any acoustic instrument. Phase switches are usually marketed as a feedback-controlling device, but they accomplish more than just that. Every acoustic instrument projects sound waves in a certain phase. The phase that is projected out of the amplified speaker source needs to be “in phase” with the acoustic instrument’s own sound waves or the result will not be optimal. If the amp projects in the opposite phase, the acoustic instrument will fight its own sound and no balanced tone can develop. The round and warm tone is only achieved when acoustic and amplified sounds oscillate in the same phase. The Pure XLR Preamp’s phase switch allows for instant correction of this problem.

An LED light indicates if phantom power is present. The unit can optionally be powered by a 9-volt battery, which will not be drained as long as the phantom power provides more than 10 volts.

The frequency response is 10-30,000Hz. The bass control is set to roll off at 100Hz, the midrange at 1.5kHz with extra large bandwidth, and the treble are set at 10kHz. The input impedance is 1 meg. Output impedance on balanced XLR and 1/4″ line out is 100 Ohm. The 1/4″ line out can conveniently be used as a monitor out or for connection to a tuner.
