Cello by Charles Georges Brugere sold through Eugene Henry, Mirecourt 1898

Charles Georges Brugere, born in 1865 and passed away in 1930, was a renowned violin maker. Coming from a family of guitar makers, he began his apprenticeship in 1878 under the guidance of Etienne Drouin in Mirecourt. He dedicated himself to honing his craft until 1882. Later on, Brugere expanded his knowledge and skills by working with notable violin makers such as Paul Blanchard in Lyon, Paul Bailly in Paris, and Gand & Bernardel Frères in Paris in 1885.

In 1892, Charles Brugere took over the management of Eugène Henry's business for a period of three years. Following this, he decided to establish his own workshop in 1895 at 11 Rue du Faubourg Poissonnière in Paris. Brugere's dedication to his craft spanned decades, as he continued to work on restoration projects in Mirecourt until his retirement in 1920.

Charles Georges Brugere was highly regarded for his exceptional craftsmanship and received recognition for his talent. In 1900, he was awarded a silver medal at the Paris Universal Exhibition, and in 1905, he achieved the prestigious honor of winning a gold medal at the Liege Universal Exhibition. Brugere primarily drew inspiration from the works of renowned violin makers such as Stradivari and Amati. Throughout his career, he crafted over 250 violins and also created four double basses featuring lion heads in the distinctive style of Gand and Bernardel.
