Bridge Lyra 5 String and Octave 5 String Violin

Electric instruments are not included in our 30 days back trial/money-back guarantee, they are covered by the manufacturer’s warranty.

Tuned to CGDAE the Lyra 5 string offers an extra dimension to upper string players. For the violinist, the extra bottom C string adds the viola register, and for the viola player, the top E string gives more access to the violin’s upper register without changing position so soon. (no viola jokes necessary!)
The Lyra offers the benefits of low volume for practice, and high volume for performance with no feedback!

The Lyra Octave and all the electric range have moulded hollow bodies, giving a high strength-to-weight ratio. The vibrating body contributes to the natural sound, generated by the Bridge pick-up system and active circuitry, with no feedback.
The neck and headstock are traditionally made from a single maple block. The headstock design is taken from the 1710 Stradivari Viola da Gamba and is the distinctive trademark found on all the Bridge instruments.
Tuned to CGDAE an octave below the Aquila, and usual acoustic violin tuning, the Lyra Octave offers the opportunity for the violin player to enter the world of the cellist without the many years of practice! In recording situations, it enables the violinist to play all the parts of a full string section, or simply provide bass and accompanying lines in performance.
Easy to play with the benefits of low volume for practice and high volume for performance!

The body is hollow, moulded from a Kevlar and carbon fibre composite with a high strength-to-weight ratio. The hollow body generates a sound profile within the body structure presenting an open sound without the use of reverb or delay. It is smooth and forgiving when played and allows low-volume practice without the use of headphones or amps. Highly stable across temperature and humidity ranges.

Pegs and Strings
The high-quality ebony pegs are professionally fitted to give a smooth tuning action. This instrument comes fitted with Pirastro Tonica strings for GDAE and D’Addario Helicore for C.

Fingerboard and nut
Designed by BRIDGE, the 5-string ebony fingerboard and nut are have been designed in conjunction with the bridge, to give maximum string clearance and playability over the 5 strings.

Bridge
The bridge houses the ‘Bridge’ pick-up system. We designed the ‘Bridge’ pick-up system specifically for use with our instruments. It is designed to pick up both the string sound and the body resonance generated from the hollow composite body. Utilising all the properties of a traditional acoustic bridge it captures the warmth of tone synonymous with its acoustic counterpart, with no feedback.
Designed by BRIDGE, the 5-string bridge has been designed in conjunction with the fingerboard and nut to give maximum string clearance and playability over the 5 strings.

Controls

All our electric range of instruments carry a volume and tone control, easily accessible for quick adjustment during performance. The tone control is a tilt control, not a boost/cut control, changing the tonal range of the instrument.

Tailpiece
All our electric range of instruments is fitted with a lightweight alloy tailpiece, fitted with integral individual tuners.

Chinrest
This is a Dresden style chinrest. The style may vary with availability, but will always be of equal quality.

Battery Holder
The battery holder is located neatly on the underside of the instrument. It houses a 3V coin cell battery, which keeps the instruments light, is readily available, and is easy to fit. It provides approximately 1000 hours of playing time and only drains whilst the jack is connected. Quick and easy to replace. The battery powers the Bridge Active Circuitry.

Bridge Active Circuitry
Each model has its own sophisticated and bespoke active circuitry frequency dedicated to each string configuration and designed to perform in conjunction with the BRIDGE pick-up system.
It supplies power to drive effects and radio packs and puts the string player on equal footing with every other amplified instrument in the band.

Jack Socket
¼ inch jack – musical instrument standard. The switch jack system automatically switches the active circuitry on and off as the jack is inserted or removed. It is carefully positioned and angled to avoid drag and interference from the cable. We have also ensured that the angle and proportions are compatible with all common wireless solutions.

Endpin
Ebony Endpin, in keeping with all the high-quality ebony fittings on this instrument.

What the players say

Ysanne Spavek
Elton John, Smashing Pumpkins, Jane’s Addiction

…as a British string arranger, string contractor and violinist now based in Los Angeles I’ve seen lots of brands of electric violins, cellos and basses in action. I’m completely satisfied with my choice to play Bridge.

Liz Predergast
Violinist and String Teacher

If you could say that playing an instrument gave the same sensual pleasure as immersing yourself in a bath of warm chocolate… that says it all really. Its smooth action makes it a true Celtic Speed Machine. I had two ambitions in life – one was to own a Bridge violin, the other was to live forever. So far so good!
I’ve tried loads of electric violins … wooden ones, plastic ones and even one made of Martian putty but it has to be said that Bridge (for ’tis a Lyra I have) buries them alive on all counts. Having tone and volume controls on the instrument is a major bonus: Its light weight sits with my every movement (if you’ve seen Blue Horses, an essential quality) and almost becomes part of you. Its smooth action makes it a true Celtic Speed Machine.
I love the feel and look of it – a really classy piece of design… It says “c’mon, have a try – y’know ya want to”.
And that’s it… Never look back, hypnotised forever and personally I wouldn’t dirty my bow on anything else.

Also play with Mc Fly, Lucie Silvas, Arctic Monkeys

Having tried a load of electric violins from different makers, our search ended with Bridge. From a playing point of view, these instruments are very responsive under the bow, allowing for a great range of tone colours. The sound is rich, as a violin should be (electric or not) and having three 5-stringed fiddles is a dream for our compositions – we can all play viola now!!!! Our first gig with them was at the Albert Hall, and they sounded monster, with an even tone throughout the range. This reliability and playability coupled with their stunning looks makes Bridge a winner, and we look forward to getting a second set soon!
