A magnificent violin by Gaetano Gadda, Mantua 1950.
This remarkable violin crafted by the esteemed Italian luthier Gaetano Gadda (1900-1956) exemplifies the finest achievements in 20th-century Mantuan violin making. As the principal apprentice and authentic heir to Stefano Scarampella, Gadda's work captures the distinguished heritage of the Mantua school while displaying his personal artistic signature.
Gaetano Gadda, born in 1900, commenced his training with Stefano Scarampella in 1919. Upon receiving Scarampella's workshop in 1925, Gadda cultivated his unique approach, integrating Guarneri del Gesù elements into his violin designs from the 1940s onwards.
This Guarneri-influenced violin represents Gadda's peak creative period.
The instrument delivers a full, luminous sound with remarkable characteristics:
Resonant and responsive across all ranges
Rich harmonic spectrum for tonal depth
Commanding projection for solo performance
Unwavering clarity at all dynamic levels
The attractive back in four pieces of maple of very fine curl running horizontally across the back from the center joint. The ribs, pegbox and scroll of similar curl. The front in two matching pieces of spruce of medium-broad grain. Characteristic amber-red varnish on a light golden-brown ground.
