Scottish viola by Robert Ballantyne, Glasgow 1848
The attractive two-piece back of maple of strong medium curl descending across the back from the center joint. The ribs similar, the pegbox and scroll of somewhat less pronounced curl. The front in two pieces of spruce of medium grain in the center becoming finer towards the flanks. The varnish of a rich red-orange colour on a yellow ground.
